We love it when a bicycle is not just a functional assembly of frame and components but tells an inspiring story as well. Like the stunning Matera, a gravel bike by Officina Battaglin. Every frame is hand built with great craftmanship and precision. Not by just any mechanic but by true artists whose experience go back a long time. Like the historic settlements the Matera’s name is based on.
The Sassi di Matera are prehistoric cave dwellings in the Italian city of Matera, Basilicata. Since 1993, the Sassi and the park of the rock churches of Matera have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They are a perfect example of the almost seamless integration of mankind and natural sources. A bit like gravel riding when riders have an unlimited access to unpaved, unguided paths, sometimes well hidden in nature. To be experienced with a bike like the Matera.
The Matera is handcrafted in Italy using Columbus Spirit HSS tubing and is available both as a frameset and as a complete bicycle. Each Matera is built in the Marostica workshop combining traditional Italian framebuilding techniques with modern gravel performance. Available in 5 sizes and built according to the clients’ personal requirements. One by one.
The Matera features a UDH hanger and comes in 5 different colours, the “Matera Minimal” range, meticulously selected by master painters at the workshop. Alternatively, you can select a more translucent finish from the “Matera Chromovelato” range, where the steel shimmers through the colour. Regardless the finish, you are in for a smooth ride that honors both the spirit of exploration and the timeless reliability that only steel can provide.
