Focus launches a new generation of gravel bikes, the Focus Atlas. These are not born to win, but to lose, according to the brand. It is not about winning but about enjoying the ride. However, the new 8.9 model gives you sufficient ammunition to go for the podium. At a very accessible price.
The geometry of the bike hasn’t changed much, the 8-series have a bit more sportive position than before. Main change is that Focus is now going for the more common 100×12 and 142×12 axle widths, saying goodbye to the RoadBoost hub concept.
Both the 6-Series Atlas with aluminum frame (1,898 grams in size m), and the 8-Series with carbon frame (1,050 grams in size m) are well equipped with mounting points. Both the front fork and rear fork can be mounted rack and mudguards. Focus itself supplies the Hawaii Rack: a carrier for the front fork, with which you can carry a bag above the front wheel. At the back you can opt for the Adventure Rack being positioned next to the rear wheel.
The carbon version also gets a rattle-free storage compartment in the down tube. With the Focus Atlas, this luggage compartment is called Prep Pocket. All carbon models come with a compact bag of Prep Pack, in which you can store tools, CO₂ cartridges or a spare tube. On all models, the brake lines and shift cables go into the frame via the stem and the upper headset bearing. Focus calls it Cockpit Integration System (CIS).
All Atlas models come with a carbon fork so there is room for a suspension upgrade. This fork allows 53 mm tire clearance. At the back of the 8-series you can fit 45 mm tires.
