Shimano has updated its SPD pedal system. They introduced new SPD cleats, the CL-MT001 SPD, that would enable to click in in several ways. You can click in from any side with the new click system: forwards, backwards or directly from above. Ideal for gravel and cyclocross riders, but also for beginners who want more confidence during click-in. The new cleat is compatible with all existing SPD pedals.
Shimano also unveils a new addition to the cleats: the Pontoon Cleat System. That would ensure better contact between the shoe and pedal, thanks to two plastic blocks that are mounted on both sides of the cleat. These blocks move along with the cleats and provide a ‘more stable pedal interface’, which would be comparable to that of a racing shoe. At the same time, walking would be more comfortable and stable.
The new Pontoon Cleat System is introduced at the same time as the new S-PHYRE RX910 gravel shoe. The new shoe features a durable, lightweight, and stiff TPU outsole, and utilizes the new Pontoon cleat system to deliver an efficient pedal-shoe interface for maximum power output. Off-the-bike walkability is improved thanks to the shoe’s sole curve profile, and dual drain holes help keep feet dry on wet weather days.
The S-PHYRE RX910 comes in four different colours and is available for € 399*.
