Specialized launched the new CRUX 5 gravel bike this week. Top of the range: the S-Works. The lightest and fastest gravel bike ever made.
Aerodynamic performance has gone up considerably. In all areas. Frame, fork and seat post take 50% of the improvement, the Roval-Terra Aero wheels 30% and the Roval-Terra cockpit 20%. A complete aerodynamic package gaining a 15.2-watt reduction at 45 km/h as measured with a moving simulation in the Specialized Win Tunnel.
The new Crux 5 frame is the lightest in its kind, just 789 grams. It results in a total bike weight from only 6.9 kg. Impressive considering this is a gravel bike that would need sufficient structural integrity to battle severe road conditions. Thanks to the application of Specialized’s bespoke Flow State Design, a technology first applied to the Aethos road bike.
In short, this is a fast-accelerating machine offering a balanced resilience, reducing fatigue on the roughest tracks. With a tyre clearance up to 55 mm for plenty of grip and comfort. The Crux 4 was far from a bad ride, but the new aerodynamics of the Crux 5 will bring your gravel experience to the next level. Up to you to live up to it.
