Wolf Tooth expands its pedal line with three new SPD-compatible clipless pedals: the CTRL, ALT and DEL. The American brand, known for its precision-milled parts, is aiming at riders who want the familiar SPD click experience but with more stability and adjustment options.
The new Wolf Tooth SPD pedals differ in platform size and intended use. The CTRL is the most all-round variant, suitable for trail and enduro use. This pedal has a platform area of 941 square mm and is 15 mm thick. A pair weighs 326 grams, so it’s positioned between Shimano’s XTR and XT cross-country pedals.
The ALT is more compact with a net contact area of 443 square mm, weighs 294 grams per pair and is aimed at cross-country and gravel. Body thickness is 15 mm as well.
With the DEL, Wolf Tooth brings its lightest variant with only a fixture on one side of the pedal. They position this as a solution for gravel who are looking for more security in dirty conditions. Both in terms of clipping in and using profiled shoes. The DEL pedals weigh 216 grams per pair and have a support area of 559 square mm. At 14.7 mm thick, the body of this pedal is a bit more compact.
All pedals use a stainless steel click mechanism that is fully compatible with Shimano SPD cleats. This means that you have a choice of five or twelve degrees of freedom, depending on the positioning of the cleat. The click resistance is adjustable by means of spring tension and the pedals offer the same click feel as the original Shimano version.
With a wider aluminium platform, the Wolf Tooth pedals offer stability and lateral support. The bodies are short and thin, so you stand closer to the pedal axle. The stainless steel shaft and the bodies are made of 6061-T6 aluminium in Wolf Tooth’s own factory.
A nice option is the adjustable Q-factor. The Wolf Tooth CTRL, ALT and DEL clipless pedals change the placement of shims and bearings around the axle. This allows you to adjust the Q-factor of your pedal in three steps of 4 mm between 51, 55 and 59 mm without any other additional parts or changing the axle.
The pedals are maintenance-friendly, all parts are available separately, as you would expect from Wolf Tooth. The pedals come with a set of SPD plates and are available with a black or purple anodized body. Price € 225*.
