The new DT-Swiss F132 One fork with 40 mm of travel is now exclusively available on the Canyon Grail CFR Rift gravel bike. The fork comes standard equipped with lugs for luggage and a remote lock-out.
The fork has a characteristic shape, with a strongly sloping fork crown, the bridge between the lower legs placed at the rear and narrow at the bottom of the legs. The ’32’ in the name indicates the diameter of the inner tubes.
The F132 One is equipped with the Linear SL air spring with a positive and negative air chamber. In the left leg you find the PlainGain damping cartridge which DT Swiss developed specifically for this gravel fork. The rebound can be adjusted manually in nine clicks. Compression is not adjustable, just open or locked.
The weight of 1,340 grams (without remote and thru-axle) is comparable with the RockShox Rudy Ultimate XPLR and is about 100 grams heavier than Fox’s Taper Cast 32 gravel fork and 340 grams than Cane Creek’s Invert SL.
DT Swiss has carried out extensive roll-over tests in which they measured the horizontal peak forces on the wheel axle when driving over an obstacle. The results indicate the efficiency of the ride: the higher the peak load in the direction of travel, the more speed you lose on impact. Compared to a rigid fork in combination with 40-mm tyres, the peak load with the F132 One turned out to be on average 60 percent lower at 15 km/h. At 25 km/h, in combination with 50 mm tires, the difference is a maximum of 53 percent.
Travel of the fork can be completely locked by using a remote lever on the handlebar, the DT Swiss PushControl. This lever always jumps back to its starting position, whether you open or block the fork, thanks to a rotating element inside the cartridge. It just switches between the open and closed position.
Another reason for Canyon’s collaboration with DT Swiss is that the German bicycle manufacturer has a specific trail for its gravel bike Grail. Most common fork offset sizes, the trail, are 45 and 50 mm. The Grail has a somewhat exceptional trail with 65 to 70 mm. The trail decides the steering behaviour, the higher the trail the lighter the steering. It would be crucial to maintain the same geometry as with a rigid fork.
As there is no other single suspension fork on the market that offers these specs, Canyon and DT-Swiss decided to develop one together. When the fork becomes available for other brands, DT-Swiss will also offer the F132 One with 45 and 50 mm trail versions.
The cable routing is semi-integrated: the brake line runs down through the fork crown along the steerer tube, after which it continues on the outside of the fork leg. The lockout cable is also integrated to maintain a clean look.
