The 5th generation of the Duke Lucky Jack is lighter than ever. The lightest rim weighs about 245 grams and a complete wheelset an impressive 1.099 grams. A must for XC weight weenies!
The Duke Lucky Jack was already available in differentiated widths for the front and rear. This is the concept that Duke calls 6TERS, with a 31 mm rim at the front to offer better support for the tyre, more grip and control, and 28 mm at the rear for more robustness and efficiency.
The same applies to the new SLS5, but Duke took it a step further by introducing a specific rim for the front tire with a width of 31 mm and a weight of only 245 grams. Nevertheless, the wheel has 2.6 mm wide anti-pinch side reinforcements to make it as strong as possible and very suitable for competitive use. You can combine it with 285 grams weighing rear version, available in both 31 and 28 mm widths. For less competitive riders, you might want to use this version for the front tire as well.
Finally, the 350 g version is only available in 28 mm width for rear mounting and a “very committed” XC use as Duke explains. The specs of the different rim weights are shown in the image below.
The various rims will be available in 24 and 28 spoke bores, and with the option of customizing the stickers. Or you can go for the varnish free finish, which is lighter but still very scratch-resistant.
Although weight went down with about 10%, vertical compliance increased with 15%. That makes the wheels not only light and fast, but stable as well. The use of ImpactGuard inserts makes sure that vibrations or side impacts are easily absorbed. The weight-to-strength ratio has also been optimised by optimising the spoke arches directly into the rims (SpokeCore).
