If you are a fan of Flanders Classics, you will have crossed down this weekend’s race on your calendar a long time ago, the famous Tour of Flanders.
Did you know that Eddy Merckx won his first Tour of Flanders at the age of 23 after a solo escape of 70 km, finishing over 5 minutes before the next rider, Felice Gimondi? We think, it’s time for a little tribute just before the 110th edition of the Tour will take place this Sunday.
Earlier this year Merckx introduced a titanium version of the Corsa Strasbourg, previously only available in steel. For the Ti version, Columbus’s Hyperion titanium tubes are used, the lightest tubeset Columbus ever produced. The result is a frame that feels light and responsive, yet durable enough to last a lifetime.
The Corsa Strasbourg offers a tyre clearance of 50 mm which makes it suitable to ride on all road conditions. It features a 3D printed UDH dropout and sufficient mounts for bags and fenders. Fork and cockpit are identical to its Ridley gravel brothers.
The geometry of the Strasbourg Ti is designed to handle the most challenging gravel rides. The frame is manufactured in Italy, in line with the pure Italian bikes Eddy rode throughout his entire career.
In the configurator on the Eddy Merckx website, you can choose what group and wheelset you prefer. Based on the Italian history of Eddy, we would opt for the all-Italian assembly: a Campagnolo Super Record X 1×13-speed drivetrain, Selle Italia saddle and Bora X50 wheels fitted with Vittoria Terreno tyres (see image below).
Please note the orange colour highlights in the Wolftooth components. Just anticipating on a possible Dutch victory this Sunday…
