For those who want to install rim brakes on their precious road bike, here is the ultimate upgrade. Rim brakes are lighter but less powerful in bad weather conditions. But if you are willing to compromise, the revised Fibula brakes from the Germany based THM Carbones would be an excellent option.
The Fibula braking system combines powerful braking characteristics with a super low weight. For the new brake design, THM used a resin transfer molding (RTM) method, a process that improves product tolerancing, consistency, and strength-to-weight, and has less environmental impact than a traditional carbon fibre production.
The brake adjustment system has been revised as well, allowing the pivot point to adjust to a wider rim of 30 mm maximum.
At the same time, the unique lever system acts as a sort of brake booster. A ratio of 1:1.5 results in very high braking forces with little manual effort. Another innovation is the use of a carbon spring instead of titanium to reset the brake arms.
Pull ratio is optimized for Shimano, SRAM, and Campagnolo levers, and at 120 g for the pair, the new Fibula, like its predecessor, remains the lightest brake set available on the market.
Weight: 120 g without brake pads (61 g front / 59 g rear)
Brake pads: all brake pads suitable for Shimano® Standard
Suitable rim width: the brake pads are about 33 mm wide apart in their fully open position. Rims with a width of 19 mm to 30 mm can be used with the Fibula.
Price set: € 1.475*
